Confident Hope

Ephesians 1:18… I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.

It’s probably true… in those moments when I lose hope it is because my heart is filled with darkness and disbelief and discouragement; I can’t see past my own circumstances or beyond my selfish desires and hope fades off into the distance. The great missionary and apostle, Paul, wrote these words to the church in Ephesus to encourage them and to help them understand who they actually were as followers of Jesus!

God calls out to each of us and adopts us as his dearly loved and cherished child. God floods our hearts with light… optimism in the face of despair, victory in the face of defeat, hope in the face of discouragement. God floods our hearts with Jesus and His love and it is from Him that we can understand and live with confident hope flowing out of our lives into the lives of others!

I read this great quote today from Eugene H. Peterson, from his book entitled, Living the Message: Daily Help for Living the God-Centered Life… “No life of faith can be lived privately. There must be overflow into the lives of others.”

May your love for Jesus and your hope in Him pour out of your life and flood the lives of those you encounter each and every day. May you live with confident hope in the One who is with you and knows how to carry you along through these times of uncertainty!
